Jack Chick's False Gospel
PLEASE NOTE: I changed up the way I’m sharing information and am now on Youtube. You should definitely come check out my channel. Click the link, and I’ll see you there! (FYI - My beliefs have changed on some subjects since writing for this website.)
Here is the last page of every Jack Chick tract, which is meant to show someone how to be saved. Take a look at Step 2. "Be willing to turn from sin (repent)." That step is quite contrary to the many times the Bible tells us that simple faith in Jesus Christ is what saves one's soul. Telling someone that they must be willing to turn from sin adds a step to salvation, thus presenting a false gospel.
2nd Corinthians 11:3-4: "But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him."
Notice that the man asks "But what must I do to be saved?" The Jack Chick answer is "Repent! Surrender your life to Christ. Acknowledge that He died for your sins and receive Him as your savior!"
When confronted with this exact same question in Acts 16, what did Paul and Silas tell the jailor?
Acts 16:30-31: "And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house."
Question: Why is the Jack Chick answer to the same question different than the answer found in the Bible? If the Bible says to believe on Jesus Christ, but Jack Chick says you must repent (a word which is falsely defined by Chick tracts) and surrender your life to Christ, then Jack Chick has changed the Gospel message. Does Jack Chick know how to be saved better than the very Word of God? Did Jack Chick turn from all his sins? Does Jesus Christ need our help in order to save us?
John 6:47: "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life." - Jesus
We have a serious problem here when someone is telling you something contrary to what the Bible says. I took a look around the Chick Publications website once and was unable to locate a way to contact the company in order to discuss this huge error of corrupting the Gospel. Nevertheless, I sent a message to Chick Publications by way of their Product Information link. Here is my original message:
Since chick.com does not have a simple contact link for questions/comments, I don’t have an appropriate outlet to send this to. Nevertheless, I would like to thank everyone at Chick Publications for all their hard work. My mother collects these tracts and passes them out to people. She has been a fan of your tracts for years, and she used to purchase them for my brother to add to his collection. The idea of a small comic book is a clever way to reach out to people and grab their attention. Recently, I pointed out to my mother that there is a false gospel message on the last page of each tract. Step two in each tract’s salvation plan says “Be willing to turn from sin (repent). See Acts 17:30” The Jack Chick website’s statement of faith claims that salvation is by faith alone in Jesus Christ, but strangely enough, that message is not the same message printed in the tracts. So what is it then? Faith alone? Or faith plus works? Turning from sin is work. Now unfortunately, my mother is getting older and does not have the best judgment anymore. We became engaged in an argument over the corrupt gospel message printed in your tracts. So thank you all very much for causing my mother confusion in her old age, and for sharing a false gospel with an untold number of people.
I would like to take this opportunity to invite someone, anyone, to show me just one single time in the King James Bible where people are told they must “repent of sin” to be saved. I have yet to find “repent of sin,” “repent of sins,” “repent of your sins,” or any such phrase. Since Jack Chick tracts just assume that the word “repent” means to turn from sin, then perhaps someone could explain to me why God Himself repented 36 times in the Old Testament. Or how about Romans 10:9? This verse is printed on the last page of each Chick tract. “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” Now where does this verse say one must “turn from sin,” or “be willing to turn from sin” to be saved? How about John 3:16, John 3:18, John 6:47, John 20:31, the entire book of Galatians, Ephesians 1:7 and 13, Philippians 3:9, etc. If repentance automatically means turning from sin, how do you explain Romans 11:29? “For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.” Repentance means a change of mind. In relation to salvation, it means having a new mind about God and Jesus. It means realizing we cannot save ourselves, and no amount of turning from sin will save us, keep us saved, or even help save us. Look at Titus 3:5-8: “Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life. This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men.” Paul says good works are profitable, but are they necessary for salvation? No. Remember the aforementioned Romans 11:29? “For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.” Let’s put that next to Ephesians 2:8: “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:” So according to these two verses, we can come to some pretty startling conclusions. Salvation is a gift of God, and gifts of God are without repentance. That means that salvation is free because it is a gift, and it also means that God never changes His mind and takes it back, so we don’t need to turn from sin to remain saved. The Jesus Christ I accepted as my savior is so good at His job that He saved me all by Himself. The Jesus Christ in Jack Chick tracts is a counterfeit Jesus who cannot save people by Himself. This weak “Jesus” needs help because of his inability to offer salvation freely. Do you know what the Bible says about another gospel? Galatians 1:6-9: “I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.”
One last thing I would like to point out due to its absurdity, is the very verse used in Chick tracts to define repentance. Acts 17:30: “And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:” Here, the classic move of taking Bible verses out of context was utilized for dramatic effect. So what were “the times of this ignorance?” The men of Athens were worshipping idols instead of the true God. They had become so superstitious, they even had an altar that was dedicated “TO THE UNKNOWN GOD.” This was ignorance, and God commanded that they repent and believe in the one true God. This verse does not have anything to do with turning from sin to be saved. It was telling these men to change their minds and realize who God really is. If this verse is what Jack Chick uses to defend his false gospel, then he doesn’t have very solid ground to stand on.
To tell someone they must turn from sin to be saved is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. How can a person ever stop sinning entirely? How can a person ever even be entirely willing? We are still living in the flesh, and thus we have an internal struggle described by Paul in Romans 7. Here, Paul describes the difficulty of living the Christian life. Even he struggled with sin, and he wrote a bulk of the New Testament. Now if you have any testamonials from your readers who claim they have stopped sinning, please send them my way. I would be greatly interested in learning how they have become so righteous, since Romans 3:10 says that no one is righteous.
I know there are a lot of “Christians” who like Jack Chick tracts. Like my mother, many of them must not have noticed the dangerous message hidden in plain sight. It’s the same damnable message being pushed by Ray Comfort, Paul Washer, and other works salvationists who seek to corrupt God’s simple plan. To you, I quote Galatians 5:4: “Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace.”
I never received a reply from Chick Publications. They produce many tracts, and are a staple for many Christians. There is much truth in Chick tracts, no doubt. However, when someone is corrupting the Gospel message, they are treading on dangerous ground. Nothing is more sinister than keeping people from coming to the place where they put their faith in Jesus Christ alone for salvation. Telling someone they must turn from sin, or even be WILLING to turn from sin, in order to be saved, is teaching ANOTHER gospel, which the Bible says is a FAKE. There is only ONE Gospel! All others are LIES! Don't be tricked into trusting your own righteousness! You do not have any, and neither do I! Put your faith in Christ alone!
Romans 10:3-4: "For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth."
Romans 3:22-24: "Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus."
When one believes on Jesus Christ, the righteousness of Christ is placed over that person's own record. It is a done deal. That person is saved, and God demands nothing more than simple faith in His Son to perform this miracle. This is God's plan. Do not be deceived by those who will tell you otherwise.

Here it is again. Jack Chick's false gospel. When the man in the comic strip asks how to be saved, is he told to believe on Jesus Christ? NO. He is told he must turns from his sins and ask Jesus to be his savior. In other words, YOU do the work and THEN Jesus will save you. What a load of garbage! Has Jack Chick turned from all his sins? Is it wise to go against the clear teaching of the Bible? Why are so many ignorant Christians unable to see the heresy presented in these tracts?
Here it is yet again. You see, it wasn't just an oversight in one or two Chick tracts. It occurs over and over again. Note what the boy prays below. Where does he say he is believing on Jesus Christ? He doesn't. He is "repenting of sin" and "receiving" Jesus as "Lord and Saviour." That is Lordship Salvation. Folks, this is not how the Bible says one becomes saved! Christians can be wrong on a lot of things, but we better not be wrong on the topic of salvation! Do not distribute Jack Chick tracts! They are teaching a false gospel!
Romans 10:9: "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved."
Jack Chick tracts are of the devil. The artwork is nice. Some truths are presented in a clever way. But none of that matters when a false gospel is being given. Salvation is simple! Jack Chick tracts are lying to the lost!

Chick Tracts? More like Chick Trash! Nowhere in the Bible are we told to "repent of sins" and "accept Jesus" in order to be saved. We are told to believe on Jesus Christ (John 3:16, Acts 16:30-31). This is not a matter of different wordings which mean the same thing. This is the difference between the true Gospel and a false gospel. Jack Chick does not teach the same salvation message that the Bible does. Chick Trash belongs in the garbage.
1st John 5:5: “Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?”
1st John 5:5: “Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?”
I received two emails from a woman who had visited my website. She wrote “Please call me! Or give me a # to call you! I have an important question!” She then wrote back with the following: “Please please call me!”
After calling this woman, I found out that she never had a question to ask me, as she had originally said. The reason she wanted to speak with me was to tell me that I am slandering a good man, that Chick tracts do not teach a works salvation, and that I am not saved. This woman was very upset with me because she is a fan of Chick tracts. One thing about religion is that people tend to love religion more than truth. People get wrapped up in what this teacher says, or what this book says, and they forget to make sure that the doctrine they are subscribing to matches up with Scripture. This woman did not want to hear my take on things. Her mind was made up, and she was more interested in following religion than truth.
Here are some thoughts about this very one-sided conversation:
1. This woman called me a slanderer. Here is what slander is, according to thefreedictionary.com:
“a malicious, false, and defamatory statement or report”
I never slandered Jack Chick. I have, however, shown actual pages from his tracts to show that he requires an extra step to be saved that is not Biblical. I never gave a false statement or report. The evidence is posted on this page for you to see. In the Bible, no one is told to turn from sin to receive eternal salvation, and no one is told to be willing to turn from sin to receive eternal salvation. Let’s look at three of the simplest verses dealing with eternal salvation:
John 6:47: “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.” - Jesus
Romans 10:9: “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”
Acts 8:37: “And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.”
That last verse is from when Philip led a man to belief on Jesus Christ. There is no mention of turning from anything. Unfortunately, because of man-made terms found in religion, there is this idea that has infiltrated “Christian” circles that says you must “turn from sin” or “be willing to turn from sin” to be saved. Did you see any “turning” in the above examples from the Bible?
2. This woman said that “repent” means to have a “change of mind.” I agree. Funny how she said that Chick tracts are correct, when Chick tracts define repentance as “Be willing to turn from sin”. This woman’s definition of repentance is not the same as the definition found in Chick tracts, so she has created a contradiction.
3. This woman came to the conclusion that I am not saved. I told her that I did what the Bible calls for: I believed on Jesus Christ. That was not good enough for her, and she declared me to be unsaved.
The main purpose of my website is to present the Gospel of Christ the way it was intended: A simple message of good news meant to be believed. The secondary purpose of my website is to expose people and teachings that go against the Bible, people and teachings that make it their goal to cause people to doubt their salvation and/or cause people to trust in something other than Jesus Christ. I find it very telling that this woman declared me to be unsaved, because that is what religious people love to do. They love to think that they have something that another saved person does not. Religion is one of the biggest traps used by Satan. It infects people, even people who may mean well. Religion causes people to add things to the Bible that are not even there. And when you call someone out for this, their response is always the same: “You are not saved.” It no longer matters if you do what the Bible requires you to do to be saved, because some religious person has decided that you must do more.
4. This woman told me that I should talk to Jack Chick personally before “slandering” him. I do not know how to get a hold of Jack Chick personally. I did write an email to his website, which is posted above. I never received a response.
5. This woman told me I needed to come under conviction and take down my website. I will not be taking down my website, or my page about Chick tracts. Why not? Because it is important to expose people who are making salvation complicated by adding extra steps to the Gospel. Religious people are sneaky, and we need to be aware of their tricks. Chick tracts get so much information correct. It’s a true shame that when it comes to their salvation message, they slip in an extra requirement that is not required in the Bible.
After this conversation was done, this woman emailed me again later to let me know that she had gone behind my back and given my phone number to someone associated with Jack Chick. She let me see a quote from this man where he said that people like me are just stubborn and do not want to see the truth, and a comment was made that I am not doing anything “constructive.” This woman also bragged to this man about how she believed that she had gotten me worked up. She wasn’t proud that she shared what she thought to be the truth with me. She was proud of the idea that she had caused me stress. Very Christian like.
I would be offended by all of this, but as I was thinking it over, God randomly dropped a verse of Scripture into my head:
Galatians 4:16: “Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth?”
The book of Galatians was a letter written by Paul to the churches in Galatia. They had been infiltrated with religious people who sought to bring the Galatian believers into a state of bondage by putting them under the law (the Ten Commandments), which was basically telling the Galatian believers that they must not sin. Paul was writing to remind these believers that they had believed on Jesus Christ, and thus they were free from all of that bondage. Why would they desire to be under such bondage again?
Galatians 4:9: “But now, after that ye have known God, or rather are known of God, how turn ye again to the weak and beggarly elements, whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage?”
These days, speaking the truth will earn you enemies. Jesus Christ is the truth (John 14:6), and when you present the simple Gospel of Christ, you make enemies. When you call out others for perverting the simple Gospel of Christ, you make enemies. Either way, Paul had it right. There are people out there who do not like the truth, and who would rather remain in bondage or stay subscribed to religious teachers that they prefer over truth. This woman that I spoke to ultimately proved my fear to be true. Not only do false teachers work to make believers on Jesus Christ doubt their salvation, but their followers learn to do the same. That is why I am more sure than ever that my website is needed.
Believe on Jesus Christ, and you will be saved. No extra ingredients needed!
Galatians 1:6-12: “I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed. For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ. But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man. For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.”
Chick tracts add an extra step to the Gospel. I said it before, but I’ll say it again, since some people cannot seem to understand. In one Chick tract, a man asks “But what must I do to be saved?” The Jack Chick answer is “Repent! Surrender your life to Christ. Acknowledge that He died for your sins and receive Him as your savior!”
When confronted with this exact same question in Acts 16, what did Paul and Silas tell the jailor?
Acts 16:30-31: “And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.”
Chick tracts say you must “be willing to turn from sin”. The Bible says you must simply believe on Jesus Christ. Who are you going to listen to?
After calling this woman, I found out that she never had a question to ask me, as she had originally said. The reason she wanted to speak with me was to tell me that I am slandering a good man, that Chick tracts do not teach a works salvation, and that I am not saved.
You can learn about the absurdity of Lordship Salvation, with a little more information on Chick Tracts, in another one of my articles here:
Chick Tracts teach a false definition of "repentance." For the true definition, check out my page all about repentance, the page that Chick Publications does not want you to read:
